Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the common questions I am asked about documentary photography. If you have additional questions, I am happy to answer them for you. I want you to feel completely comfortable before booking with me. Shoot me a message above and I will get back to you soon.

  • - I’m sure you may have seen this term a ton when photographers are responding to posts in your local groups on Facebook, but what exactly does it mean?

Simply put, it is photography that preserves life: the way it looks and feels, right now.

  • The answer is yes. To YOU you’re boring, but you & your kids will want these memories. Quiet bed snuggles in the morning when they went to sleep in their own bed the night before or chasing them through the house. The reality is most families do these types of things, too.. EVERY. DAY.

I also want to point out that social media is a scam. Forget the perfectly clean and tidied houses… I’m a judgment-free zone, because I’m in the thick of parenthood, too. Heck, I bet most people don’t have these immaculate homes you think they do. We’ve all got crumbs in every room, clothes strewn about instead of the hampers they belong in, and let’s not pretend we all haven’t stepped on the Legos we asked our kids to clean up 1,000 times a day. I’m a judgment-free zone, because I’m in the thick of parenthood, too.

THESE are the memories you’ll want to remember, the ones your kids will love to look back on one day.

  • Print them! Print them big, print them small, put them in a photo album, send them to family as a card. Hang them on your walls! You’ve already invested in your favorite memories - show them off! In times when you’re feeling down, you can look at happy memories and it will instantly boost your mood. Sure, you have them on your phone but let’s be honest, we have THOUSANDS of photos on our phones. How often do you go back through ALL of them to truly appreciate them? Don’t worry, I’ll wait. Plus, technology is unreliable. It’s constantly changing. Computers crash. Phones restart. We’ve all experienced something like this before. Imagine never printing your images, having your device fail or something becomes outdated, and now you have lost those precious memories… Print your photos, please.

  • Birth photography is documenting one of the most memorable and important days of your life, the day your child comes earthside. No matter how your baby is born, you’ll want to remember meeting them. You and your kiddos will be SO grateful to be able to go back in time and not just hear their birth story, but SEE it and truly FEEL it.

  • Yes! As a professional birth photographer, I have gear that allows me to work in low light conditions. We can also chat about the use of bounced flash or not, during labor!

  • Even with a good DSLR or phone, working in low light is NOT easy and the capabilities just aren’t the same as a professional full frame camera. It takes a lot of time and practice to take photographs in near dark moments or in hospitals with horrible yellow lighting. I have taken the time to study and learn to use my gear to take awful lighting situations and turn them into beautifully artistic documented moments.
